On February 12, 2013, President Obama issued Executive Order 13636 to enhance the security of the United States’ critical infrastructure. In response, the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) took proactive measures by engaging a specialized Cybersecurity consulting firm to assess our Industrial Control Systems (ICS) infrastructure, focusing on Operational Technology (OT) and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). Given the increasing integration of IT-centric technology into the OT environment, the assessment recommended that IT components within the OT environment be managed by an IT subject matter expert. Consequently, a team was created with IT and OT professionals to dedicate 100% of their time to the design, support, and maintenance of the customer's ICS infrastructure. This session will cover the challenges that were faced, the successes, and the collaborative relationships built between IT and OT. Attendees will gain valuable insights into the complexities of managing information technology in critical infrastructure and learn practical strategies for fostering effective IT-OT collaboration.
