Our customer has an aging SCADA system that is no longer available and no longer supported. The initial project is to upgrade the customer’s entire 30 year old SCADA system across 14 facilities and over a million I/O.
The challenges, outside of the time constraints, are interfacing with a mixture of old and new technology, across multiple PLC/DCS vendors, with different device configurations across similar devices while maintaining a standard look/feel to the operator. The SCADA system being replaced is a database-based system that provides some built-in functionality that is not out-of-the-box available to System Platform. The end product was to provide the same, or similar, functionality with some increased capabilities native to modern day SCADA systems. The SCADA had to be scalable and readily available in several form factors from single monitor, to dual monitor, to wide screen, to multiple 65” curved panel monitor, or 4 monitor displays with each monitor having the ability to split screens providing up to 4 independent displays/monitor.
The end result is a system that is fully scalable and modern. It provides functionality that we have not seen implemented in System Platform or OMI. Some of the functionality builds on functions readily available and utilized in System Platform installations around the globe, with some unique additions. Some of the functionality is developed to look like standard AVEVA toolsets but are custom toolsets that utilize System Platform functionality with enhancements. Some of our enhancements will make it into the product.
