What started as a need to identify leaking tanks more quickly became Ovintiv’s Rapid Anomaly Detection (RAD) journey—an operational analytics program built on the AVEVA PI System and extended through a hybrid cloud architecture. 

In this session, Steven Kociuba and Ricky Sun will share how RAD evolved from a single use case into a scalable framework for detecting and prioritizing process anomalies in real time. 
The presentation will highlight the original business challenge, the technical architecture behind the solution, the approach used to develop anomaly algorithms, and the collaboration model that helped scale the program across operations. 

It will also explore key lessons learned from expanding RAD to support 180+ monitored anomalies and how earlier detection, faster response, and exception-based decision-making have contributed to cost savings across Canada and USA operations.
