Part 1 provides an accessible introduction to large language models, AI agents, and the Model Context Protocol, with an emphasis on their potential role in industrial and pipeline environments. The session will introduce key security considerations, including controlled access to operational data, authorization, deployment boundaries, data protection, validation, and human oversight. Demonstrations will include the PI MCP Server and early Enterprise SCADA agent concepts, such as an Upgrade Assistant and Configuration Assistant. The demonstrations are intended to stimulate discussion and gather feedback on valuable use cases, necessary safeguards, and the level of trust required before these technologies could support real engineering and operational workflows.
