Abstract:
Southwest Gas has migrated the majority of its enterprise applications to AWS and SAP Rise. For AVEVA Enterprise SCADA specifically, we are building a fully isolated, dedicated AWS environment spanning two independent regions — delivering disaster recovery and software update flexibility without touching other enterprise workloads.
Connectivity runs end-to-end through Megaport Direct Connect, extending security controls from field RTUs and PLCs all the way to AWS. This architecture lets us tune control room access for the network latency SCADA operations demand, while auto-scaling handles enterprise SCADA performance requirements.
We carried forward the firewalls, load balancers, and security controls proven on-prem and in our colocation facilities, applying those same standards and best practices to our AWS deployment.
Attendees will learn how a gas utility approached SCADA cloud migration with isolation, redundancy, and security as first principles — and what it took to preserve on-prem-grade control and performance in AWS.
