There is a small but growing interest in hosting AVEVA Enterprise SCADA and related Pipeline Applications in customer-managed AWS and Azure environments. This session describes the types of cloud-based Enterprise SCADA systems that are being requested, including primary production (pure monitoring without control), secondary production (with control), secondary decision support, development. The approach described is lift-and-shift, i.e. where a hybrid on-premise/cloud architecture is created by shifting VMs into the cloud hosting environment, without product changes to Enterprise SCADA to make it cloud native. Solution Architectures are shown that map security and high availability best practices to the cloud environments, including connectivity with the control room and field devices. The results of proofs of concept and actual implementations to date are described, including known limitations of this approach.
