Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) has been using AVEVA PI System for electric generation, transmission, distribution, and gas operations for 12+ years. Now the new ADMS (Advanced Distribution Management System) has been integrated with the Electric Operations PI System, currently with 6.2M PI tags and still growing, especially with the potential DERMS (Distributed Energy Resource Management System) development. The integration includes the synchronizing PG&E GIS models to ADMS, then to PI AF (Asset Framework) as distribution network topology metadata platform, and linking to PI real-time and historical distribution SCADA data, with automatic point synchronization and asset model creation and updates, etc. The PI platform allows the users outside the Distribution Operations to access, analyze and visualize data securely and easily at any time, without jeopardizing Operational Controls. This is a true IT/OT integration and collaboration example.
