Description
Shell has developed a detailed simulation model for a Shell C3-MR LNG process in AVEVA Process Simulation (APS). This was part of an effort to assess the capability of APS as a simulation platform for LNG process modeling and optimization. The modeling was carried out utilizing the standard process library in APS. Shell was able to close the Mixed Refrigerant (MR) and Propane (C3) refrigerant loops, integrate these with the Natural Gas/LNG process loop and solve the integrated model with minimal effort. The EO based solver in APS was able to solve this complex integrated model effectively and rapidly without convergence problems typically encountered with traditional sequential modular simulation platforms. Optimization objectives for the LNG process were set up to determine optimal conditions for maximizing LNG production while minimizing utilities consumption using defined optimization handles and plant constraints. The outcome from the optimization study was favorable and indicated capability.
