Description
Managing iron ore operations can be a challenging task, particularly when applications between sites have a unique look and feel. Rio Tinto Iron Ore manages 17 mines and 4 ports across the Pilbara region of Western Australia which range from recently constructed to over 60 years of operation. Rio Tinto set out to standardize the visual appeal and effectiveness of their HMI/SCADA applications. This HMI standardization project aims to deliver one ASM standard across all mines which involves converting ~10,000 pages, ~1 million variable tags and ~250,000 digital alarms – a significant engineering effort. In this session, we will explore Rio Tinto’s approach to standardizing their visual interfaces, lessons learned along the way, and some of the results of this transformative change.
