While Digital Twins and process simulation are well established in the chemical engineering industry, bioprocessing has yet to fully embrace modern, integrated workflows for process design, optimization, and scale-up. This talk explores how Novonesis, the world’s largest provider of biosolutions, leverages AVEVA Process Simulation (APS) to build hybrid models that combine first-principles mass and energy balances with machine learning. APS gives us the ability to rapidly test design ideas and improve the suitability metrics of our bioprocesses.

We’ll walk through two real-world case studies:
