Rand Water SCADA Success Story
Description

<h1><span>Challenges</span></h1>

Our primary responsibility was to the operators who monitor SCADA systems for extended periods. We avoided overly colorful and dynamic displays to prevent triggering photosensitive epilepsy and reduce operator fatigue. We focused on enhancing productivity and alertness, enabling quick responses to critical plant conditions. Real-time data display via mobile applications ensured information accessibility for all stakeholders. Additionally, we aimed to eliminate human errors in recording equipment performance and reliably track key performance indicators.

<h1><span>Goals</span></h1>

• Enhance workforce productivity and morale.

• Provide real-time data access to all relevant stakeholders.

• Improve response times to plant failures.

• Monitor plant KPIs to enable proactive decision-making.

<h1><span>Project Outcomes</span></h1>

“The SCADA mimic displays we initially had both lackluster and excessively vibrant, leading to operator distraction and fatigue. However, by incorporating Situational Awareness into our SCADA displays, we were able to enhance both the efficiency and attentiveness of our operators.”

Previously, reliance on external applications for plant data caused delays and raised concerns about data authenticity. By creating custom Insight dashboards and trends, we provided executives with timely and accurate performance information.

We engaged the workforce by delivering actionable insights through trend data, enabling quick resolution of process errors. Automated water quality and balance reports improved daily plant performance reviews.

AVEVA Operations Reports eliminated human error in hourly KPI recordings, ensuring accurate and reliable data. AVEVA Insight enhanced equipment reliability by enabling proactive issue resolution before system performance was affected.
