Name
Norsk Hydro: Management & Control of DCS Forces Signals via AVEVA PI SYSTEM
Time
1:15 PM - 2:15 PM (PDT)
Description

In industry, there are automated systems require a DCS (Distributed Control System) to monitor, control and automate processes in real time within a plant or industrial facility. It controls variables such as temperature, pressure, flow, liquid levels, among other critical parameters, without the need for constant manual intervention. In PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), FORCE is a function in the programming software that restricts the state of an input or output address to 1 (one) or 0 (zero), regardless of the conditions acting on that address. This resource is sometimes used when a physical condition prevents the signal from reaching the PLCs, preventing the equipment from operating due to the lack of signal. However, in order for the equipment to return to operation, a FORCE is required until the physical problem is resolved.

However, this type of action needs to be managed and controlled, as there are critical forces that, if left unchecked, can put people and equipment at risk. It is essential that we have management and control of this type of action, which shows the quantity, who and when it was performed, and on which equipment online in order to avoid material and personal accidents due to improper human action of a force installed on the equipment. This work used the AVEVA PI System integrated with the SDCD (800XA ABB) of the beneficiation plant of HYDRO Mineração Paragominas-PA, to monitor, control and normalize the existing FORCES, ensuring the safety of people and equipment.
