PI System is Vale's global PIMS platform and is widely used for analyses that guide decision-making by operational teams and, consequently, their strategic business decisions.
Given the strategic need, the PIMS team in Vale's Operational Technology area developed the PI System Disaster Recovery procedure to support the continuity of decision-making in plants that use the PI System.
The Disaster Recovery Procedure will be triggered if, and only if, all high availability mechanisms [server redundancy, load balancing and active clusters] of the production environment, which guarantee the achievement of 99.923% availability, are affected by a real disaster such as fire, storm or bomb attack.
The recovery parameters to be achieved were considered to be an RTO of up to 3 [three] hours and an RPO of 0 [zero].
The simulations performed allowed the recovery of the application environment in up to 3 hours and without data loss.
