The AVEVA PI System, Vale's global PIMS platform, is essential for analyses that drive operational and strategic decisions. To ensure decision-making continuity in plants, the Operational Technology team developed the PI System Disaster Recovery Procedure. This procedure activates only if all high-availability mechanisms—like redundancy, load balancing, and active clusters—fail, despite ensuring 99.923% system availability. It addresses severe disasters, such as fires and storms. Recovery objectives include an RTO of three hours and an RPO of zero. Simulations confirmed full recovery within three hours without data loss.
