Adani Energy Solutions Limited [AESL] headquartered at Ahmedabad in Gujarat, is one of the largest private sector power transmission companies in India with a presence across all the regions of India. AESL owns and operates various High voltage AC transmission lines and substations of 132kV, 220kV, 400kV, 765kV voltage level and also High Voltage DC transmission lines and substations of +/- 500kV voltage level & 2500 MW Capacity. Today, AESL has portfolio of more than 21,100 ckt km of transmission lines and around 57,000 MVA of power transformation capacity.

AESL primarily aims at addressing the vast potential in India’s transmission sector and has set an ambitious target to set up 30,000 circuit km of transmission lines by 2030. AESL has invested in the latest technologies resulting in the highest network availability of over 99.6% in the country, which corresponds to the best global standards.

 

To aim on this AESL has taken number of initiatives to enhance the Operational efficiency of AESL assets. Among one of them is Implementation of AVEVA PI System across Adani Transmission Business.

This project utilizes the AVEVA PI System to deliver an in-depth analysis of the health and performance of critical assets, specifically transformers and reactors. By integrating the Asset Performance Management with advanced alarm analytics within the AVEVA PI infrastructure, we aim to provide actionable insights based on the real time data availability and Dashboards visualizations on categorized parameters from Field reality to management desk that will optimize maintenance strategies, enhance operational efficiency, and prevent unexpected failures.

Asset Performance Management:

·         Context: 

 

This project utilizes the AVEVA PI System to deliver an in-depth analysis of the health and performance of critical assets, specifically transformers and reactors. By integrating the Asset Performance Management with advanced alarm analytics within the AVEVA PI infrastructure, we aim to provide actionable insights that will optimize maintenance strategies, enhance operational efficiency, and prevent unexpected failures.

 

·         Approach:

o    Data Collection: 

§  Leveraging the AVEVA PI System to collect data from various sources, including real-time Energy Network Operations Centre[ENOC] SCADA systems, maintenance records, Site-testing records and historical performance logs.

 

o    Asset Performance Management Calculation: 

§  Utilization of AVEVA PI tools to compute the AHI for each transformer, Breakers, Lightening Arrestors, CTs, CVTs etc. analysing parameters such as temperature, load, DGA oil quality, Voltage Stress, insulation parameters, Operation timing of breakers, contact resistance, Signature Analysis, vibration levels, Residual Life of assets etc.

o    Alarm Data Analysis: 

§  Use AVEVA PI's advanced analytics capabilities to analyse alarm logs, identify frequent triggers, correlations, and potential faults, uncovering hidden patterns and trends.

o   Reporting and Visualization: 

§  Develop detailed reports and dashboards within the AVEVA PI environment to present findings, including visual representations of asset health trends and alarm analytics.

§  Embedding of Dashboard data on a real-time level for the on-field operator to the top management for faster decision making.

       Alarm Analytics

·         Context:

 

Leveraging the AVEVA PI System to perform comprehensive alarm analytics on critical power transmission assets, including transformers, reactors, transmission lines, and substations. The goal was to enhance operational efficiency, improve asset reliability, and optimize maintenance strategies by identifying alarm patterns, root causes, and potential issues before they escalate.

 

 

·         Approach:

 

o   Data Collection:

§  Gather historical and real-time alarm data from the AVEVA PI System. Integrate data from SCADA systems, sensors, and other monitoring equipment.

o   Data Processing:

§  Clean and preprocess the alarm data to ensure accuracy and consistency. Categorize alarms by type, severity, and frequency.

o   Alarm Analysis:

§  Use AVEVA PI System's advanced analytics tools to perform statistical and trend analysis. Identify high-frequency alarms, duration of alarm conditions, and correlated events. Use machine learning algorithms to detect patterns and anomalies.

o   Root Cause Analysis:

§  Investigate the root causes of frequent and severe alarms.

§  Correlate alarm events with asset performance data, environmental conditions, and operational parameters.

o   Reporting and Visualization:

§  Develop comprehensive reports detailing alarm patterns, root causes, and recommendations.

§  Create interactive dashboards within the AVEVA PI System for real-time monitoring and visualization of alarm analytics.
